The PDTB2 specification

• PDTB2: Protected Digital Talking Book
• A way of encrypting DAISY content so that it is reabable only by authorised reading systems
• Specification adopted by the DAISY consortium and publishd in 2007
• Seems to have received only little attention so far:
  • Only a few reading systems implement it
  • One library produces PDTB2-encrypted DAISY audio books
  • No library produces PDTB2-encrypted *text* books

Two possible reasons:

• A certain reluctance to use a highly secured format
• The abence of tools to support it
