Motivation for PDTB2 (1/2)

The specification is benefical for:

• Rightsholders
• End-users
• The DAISY standard itself

Benefice for rightsholders: obvious, it helps to preserve intellectual property

Benefice for end-users:

• If intellectual property is preserved, publishers may become more committed to making their files accessible
• Problem: because PDTB2 is not yet widely implemented on reading systems, certain legitimate uses of books are not possible
• Two solutions:
  • Not protect boks at all
  • Implement PDTB2 on DAISY compliant systems more widely
